Regular back-up of the business' data is critical, and is a key component of any basic disaster recovery plan. Unfortunately, many businesses fail to properly plan for the unexpected. An audit of the company's data back-up procedure often reveals that back-up tapes are not being stored securely off-site, files that may be open or in use overnight are not being backed-up at all, files that employees mistakenly save to their desktop computers are not included in the back-up process, and despite all good efforts, data recovery exercises are not regularly performed.
